THE GOOD NEWS: 'Before The Throne'
Pastor Jay

KEY THEMES:
-Remaining Before The Throne!
-Having the attitude of Christ.
-Alignment
JOHN 15:3-5 (NLT)
3You have already been pruned and purified by the message I have given you.
4Remain in me, and I will remain in you.
For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me.
5 “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit.
For apart from me you can do nothing.
**To 'Remain' is to 'Abide'.
To Abide in the Greek is MENÓ (MEH-no]
To tarry, to wait, to persist, to remain, to stay, to dwell, to persevere
To abide or remain in Christ means to live in His presence.
[There is permanency in the context of abiding - it's meant to be long-suffering and enduring.]
Long-suffering
Biblical context: "Long-Tempered," showing deep mercy, and choosing not to fight back or rush to punish.
-As believers, we are not only responsible for obtaining the mind of Christ but being in a place of eagerness to adjust to Christs attitude.
**It is a life altering countenance adjustment done by God’s Spirit to bring us from where we’ve been to where He is.
[HIGHLIGHT 1]
Having the mind of Christ will never lead you into opposition of Christ-like character and response.
-It will never lead us to bend the truth and lie
-It will never lead us to gossip or slander
-It will never lead us to be conceited or self absorbed
-It will never lead us to misrepresent God's nature
-It will never lead us to curse or speak in a way that doesn't exalt Christ
-It will never take on an accusatory nature but one that is filled with grace and forgiveness.
[HIGHLIGHT 2]
Christ-like character will never seek to be seen but always hidden in God and preserved by The Spirit.
MATTHEW 6:1-4 (NLT)
1 “Watch out! Don’t do your good deeds publicly, to be admired by others, for you will lose the reward from your Father in heaven.
2When you give to someone in need, don’t do as the hypocrites do—blowing trumpets in the synagogues and streets to call attention to their acts of charity!
I tell you the truth, they have received all the reward they will ever get.
3But when you give to someone in need, don’t let your left hand know what your right hand is doing.
4Give your gifts in private, and your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.
[HIGHLIGHT 3]
Without humility at the forefront of our attitude, we neglect Christs nature and become motivated by emotional motives.
Remember: Christlike Humility is the discipline to which our attitudes must be anchored to.
PHILIPPIANS 2:3-5 (NLT)
3Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others.
Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves.
4Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.
5You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.
[HIGHLIGHT 4]
It is impossible to obtain the mind of Christ without leaning first into His heart.
Ref - JOHN 15:4-5 [TPT] - Parallel
3The words I have spoken over you have already cleansed you.
4So you must remain in life-union with me, for I remain in life-union with you.
For as a branch severed from the vine will not bear fruit, so your life will be fruitless unless you live your life intimately joined to mine.
5“I am the sprouting vine and you’re my branches.
As you live in union with me as your source, fruitfulness will stream from within you—but when you live separated from me you are powerless
[HIGHLIGHT 5]
It is impossible to produce wholesome fruit without The Fruit of The Spirit first being produced in us.
GALATIANS 5:22-25 (NLT)
22But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
23gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!
24Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there.
25Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives.
**Homework Challenge (This will give us greater clarity on what Christ's attitude looks like and how can abide in Him)
Read/ make notes (asking God to speak to you):
Philippians 2:1-11 (NLT) - The Attitude of Christ (Going back through today's scriptures and highlights)
*-Write out 3 areas that you need adjusted to become more Christ-Like in attitude (particularly)
*-Prayerfully choose someone trusted to share these 3 areas with and have them pray with and alongside you as you commit to becoming more like Christ.
*-Come to prayer this Tuesday night and commit to God's process by embracing growth and the strength of a prayerful community.
