UNBRIDLED DEVOTION [WK 12] NOTES
Focus: 'INNER HEALING'

Pastor Jay

[MAIN PASSAGE FOCUS]:

1 PETER 3:8-12 (NIV)
[Suffering for Doing Good]
8Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble.
9Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult.
On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.
10For, “Whoever would love life and see good days must keep their tongue from evil and their lips from deceitful speech.
11They must turn from evil and do good; they must seek peace and pursue it.
12For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer,
but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”

-[PARALLEL]-

1 PETER 3:8-12 (TPT)
8Now, this is the goal: to live in harmony with one another and demonstrate affectionate love, sympathy, and kindness toward other believers.
Let humility describe who you are as you dearly love one another.
9Never retaliate when someone treats you wrongly, nor insult those who insult you, but instead, respond by speaking a blessing over them—because a blessing is what God promised to give you.

10For the Scriptures tell us:
Whoever wants to embrace true life
and find beauty in each day
11must stop speaking evil, hurtful words and never deceive in what they say.
Always turn from what is wrong and cultivate what is good; eagerly pursue peace in every relationship, making it your prize.
12For the eyes of the Lord Yahweh rest upon the godly, and his heart responds to their prayers.
But he turns his back on those who practice evil.

JEREMIAH 17:9 (NLT)
9“The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked.
Who really knows how bad it is?

[TPT]
9There is nothing more deceitful than the heart of man;
who can understand it?
Man’s heart is sick, in need of healing.

PHILIPPIANS 2:5 (NIV)
5In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus

1 CORINTHIANS 2:16 (TPT)
16For who has ever intimately known the mind of the Lord Yahweh well enough to become his counselor?
Christ has, and we possess Christ’s perceptions.

NOTES:

'Identifying 'Disruptors'

[Unhealed Wounds and Unresolved Trauma]

[PRELIMINARY FOCUS]
-One of the primary things that disrupts cohesive movement in The Body of Christ is Unhealed Wounds and Unresolved Trauma.
--It is a formula for disaster in the body of Christ because it causes further pain and injury which stems from a nature of deceit.

THE BODY'S RESPONSE TO INJURY
When injured, the body typically goes into "fight-or-flight" mode, which is activated by the sympathetic nervous system, causing physiological changes like increased heart rate, blood pressure, and adrenaline release to prepare the body to either confront a threat or escape from danger; essentially, it's a survival response to the injury.

JOHN 10:10-11 (NLT)
[THE GOOD SHEPHERD]
10The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.
11 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd sacrifices his life for the sheep.

[NIV]
I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

[ESV]
I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.

[FOCUS 1]
When we do not align (with unbridled devotion)  with Jesus' restorative healing process, we operate in pretense and deception, allowing our (un-confronted) wounds and trauma to lead us rather than truth (Christ).

[FOCUS 2]
THE UNHEALED WOUNDS and UNRESOLVED TRAUMA PATTERN
[Opposite to the scriptures in 1 Peter 3:8-12, wounded-ness sows the following:]
Rather than 'like minded' - Closed mindedness
Rather than 'harmony' - Division and disunity
Rather than 'sympathy' - Harshness and a nitpicking/ cold spirit
Rather than 'love' - Hate, bitterness and lack of affection
Rather than 'compassion' - Callousness and indifference
Rather than 'humility' - Pride and arrogance
Rather than 'grace' - 'Retaliation'

[FOCUS 3]
THE HEALING PROCESS (In Christ)
-Returning insults with kindness
-Repaying evil with blessing
-Speaking life and not curses (keeping our tongues from evil)
-Releasing truth and what is wholesome
-Departing from evil and absorbing what is good.
-Seeking peace and pursuing it.
